Can Veetee Heat & Eat rice be eaten uncooked, straight from the tray?

How do I know the rice I'm buying is pure Basmati rice?

For this reason and in order to protect the Basmati designation against fraudulent misuse, a committee of experts have drawn up and issued the Code of Practice on Basmati Rice which details the four main ‘pure line’ Basmati varieties.

Scientific analytical methods have been developed to supplement visual checks and to give an independent verifiable analysis of basmati rice.  The basis of the analytical methods is DNA extraction and comparison to defined markers of known basmati varieties.

Where does rice come from?

Rice grains are seeds of the plant Oryza sativa.  When it’s ready to be harvested, the plant is cut and then thrashed against a hard surface to separate the grain or seed from the stalk.  The grain is encased in a husk which is extremely hard, therefore protects the rice during this violent process.

The husks are removed from the grain, then the brown (or wholegrain) grains are milled and polished in our factories in India and the UK.  Using specialist machinery the outer bran is removed from the grain to obtain white rice.  Brown rice goes through the same process, however, some of the bran layers remain on the grain.

The rice Veetee uses is sourced from every corner of the globe, including India, Pakistan, Uruguay, China, France and Italy.

Where is rice grown?

Different rice crops are grown all over the world.

Rice plants have been cultivated for thousands of years.  They are extraordinarily adaptable and have developed different characteristics to survive in different climates.  Environmental conditions play an important role in determining the nature of rice grown in a particular region, for example the unique climate at the bottom of the Himalayan mountains provides rich soil which is perfect for nurturing the Basmati rice grain.

Rice plants require a large amount of water at the beginning of the growing season followed by a long and uninterrupted season of hot dry weather for growth and ripening.
